The CarboMark Project (www.carbomark.org), funded by the European Community through the LIFE+ program, aims to create a voluntary market for carbon credits in Veneto and Friuli Venezia Giulia.Certain agricultural and forestry measures will be adopted that are able
to generate mitigation credits exchanged on the local market. These can be purchased by local emitters to offset their own emissions.
Unlike other national projects, CarboMark was created to allow emitters to offset their emissions at a local level, so that their
commitment and investment in compensation sees a return in their area. The CarboMark project takes the following mitigation measures into account:sustainable forest management, urban greenery, wood products and biochar. The CarboMark project puts forward the proposal to establish a credible and transparent method
for the implementation of a local market for CO2 credits that reward commitment to combating climate change by forest owners and emitters. This method may become an important reference for the adoption of agro-forestry in the
voluntary market and the integration of mitigation activities in local planning in the future.
