Gilenya, the brand name for the generic fingolimod, is an oral medication approved by the FDA on September 22, 2010, for the treatment of relapsing remitting forms of multiple sclerosis (MS) in adults . Gilenya, a new treatment for multiple sclerosis, does not cure MS, but can slow the physical problems it causes and decrease the number of MS flare-ups (relapses).

  • HaHaHa! I will just stick with the MS Thanks! No Really After the liberation I am good as new one year on! no DMD's for me thanks

  • I started this last February 2011 and have been very pleased with it. The worst side effect for me has been major weight gain, or at least that's when it started. I get the chest pain but had these before treatment and had a full heart work up this summer that was good. It's SO much better than the shots, ie Betaseron. My welts lasted months! The side effects were WAY worse! I feel lucky to be on Gillenya!

  • sowhatdude1, first of all don't disrespect me. The information I stated was from a medical doctor. Furthermore, I spoke to many people who's doctor didn't want to place their patients on the drug because of the risk to the heart, which I am still dealing with since stopping it in May of this year...

  • You're a lunatic Mika78. The testing for Gilenya went on through 3 phases & for nearly 6 years. There were 26 HUNDRED (2600) test subjects - NOT 26!

The FDA would NEVER approved ANY medication preformed on only 26 people?!

Further more I was one of the aforementioned test subjects in the 3rd phase trial. I was on Gilenya for 2 1/2 years before the FDA finally approved Gilenya late Sept 2010. I had the slightest to no side effects & NO relapses the entire time I was on it!

  • Having a oral medication finally for MS treatment is a Godsend. No more shots! :) Had MS since 1992, on my second month now with Gilenya. Formerly on Avonex since 1996. Couldn't be happier.

  • 26 people for this kind of study isn't enough. The case study should have been at least two years, however it seem this was on a fast track for money. I tried Gilenya and end up with chest pains for nearly a month. Having a pill for MS is so great but until the side effects can be decrease even though we will not have many flares up how are we to live or function with the other problems?
