Lucy Randall demonstrates how to play in the irregular time signature of 7/8 on the Irish Bodhran, something seldom heard! She shows the three variants of 7/8 in a simple, clear way, then demonstrates how they are used in a tune with harmonica player Brendan Power. Check out Lucy's instructional book/CD on her MySpace site: http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID...

  • Hi Doug,

Good to hear you are enjoying the bodhran. I would like to visit the U.S at some point for sure, but have no plans to do so just at the moment.

If my plans change however I will post on myspace.

    All the best... Lucy

  • Thanks Kip! The drum is an RWE and the mic I was using is a Thomann t.bone SC300.

    Cheers

    Lucy

  • good vid, hows about a breakdown of slip jigs

  • awesome video though that guy seems to swallow his instrument at the end hahaha

  • amazing

  • The rhythm and melody is very much like Bulgarian Ratscheniza, Ръченица, dance...

  • Personally, I have found that I even have to think about what time a tune is I am in trouble. To master 7/8 time I just put every slip jig I had on record on a tape (yes eons ago) and practiced. Eventually I got it. Lovely drum though.

  • type "gift" before youtube to win money!

  • Thanks for this. I thought it would be hard to learn but its not. I am a beginner so this is helpful.

  • BAHRON?!

  • Hi Lucy, Ian here from Scotland.

Do you have a vid showing us the technique you use for the fast double/triple timing beats you use like a riff? (probably not right use of words)

    Ian

  • You can play with my band any time you want!
