that's the reason you should always give your trailer a few tugs after hooking up to make sure the king pin is secure in the fifth-wheel

chuck738, the fifth wheel was hooked properly to the king pin, the fifth wheel had a defect in the clamp causing the pin to slip out under pressure, this accident was none preventable

Unfortunately this probably had nothing to do with the corner,rather the trailer may have been a little high when he hooked up to it,allowing the kingpin to sit on top of the locking jaws,not clamped by them,then when the trailer rode the curb it would lift off out of the fifth wheel.

@chuck738 when I spoke to a photographer he said the same thing , that the driver probably didn't have the trailer hooked up properly
