JUST MISSED!!! "Honolulu Lulu" just missed making the Billboard's Hot Top 10 chart; it peaked at No. 11 and spent a total of 10 weeks in the Hot Top 100 in 1963...
This record followed Jan and Dean's only No. 1 record, "Surf City", also in 1963...

Thanks! I carry this stuff in my head-makes great dreams-I salute Lulu's spirit again and again when I see a wave thats ready.

@joanib Vacation in 2004--wish I was back there.

Jan & Dean made good, clean, fun music.
They had a lot of hits, created new sounds and were a big part of the California surf music that put the Beach Boys on the map.
Jan & Dean belong in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Another Jan & Dean classic from their golden era. Written by Berry-Adler-Christian, this one debuted on the charts in Summer 1963 & peaked at #9, selling some 580,000 copies. The studio session featured 2 x four-track recorders & some 12 background vocal overdubs were utilised (ref : J & D Anthology Album, United Artists 1974). Great post !!
