The walking and cycling sounds like a good plan Morfar, I lost quite a bit of weight by walking at a good pace to work every day, so the main thing is regularity. I will say though, make sure you don't neglect to work your arms with press ups, dips and such.... it's quite important to try and hit all of your big muscle groups. :3
