  • can anyone tell me at what rate do worms reproduce and multiply?? and what's a good amounts of worms to get started for a set-up this size ?thanks

  • @sakopcantsitstill You need ~1000 worms to get started.

Worms mutliply very quickly, but may take a couple of months to get going. I believe that worms can reproduce about 5- 20 worms every 15 days. 1000 mature worms properly cared for can produce up to 500,000 in a year! However they will restrict their own numbers to the correct quantity for the size of the worm farm container.

It took 3 months for our worm farm (started with 1000 worms), to be consuming the scraps of 4 adults and 3 kids.

  • @Lavenderrose73 The oil on your hand will probably not hurt the worms.

  • @elenaviruesortega I am sure the measurements don't matter much. The most important thing is the ingredients and that it doesn't get too hot. See my comments on page one and check out the video on CupRockTV for another great video on worm farming.

  • @carlaspond See my comments to bcsback on page one of the comment section regarding free styrofoam boxes and the website to check out for a great video on YouTube.

  • @ConcernedMushroom Nice tip!

  • bcsback,

Go to CupRockTV website. Scroll down to the video called "Top ten secrets- #10, Earthworms. That guy is good. He has other great gardening videos as well.

  • @bcsback I saw another YouTube video where the guy said he got his for free from a sushi restaurant. Any restaurant that serves fish would probably have them. Sushi restaurants get their fish delivered to them in heavy duty styrofoam containers and just throw them out.

  • eogg25- I was looking into this to breed my own bait, just not sure if they breed fast enough ?

  • these home grown redworms are great for fishing.

  • Styrofoam id pretty nasty stuff. So, great concept, but different materials please.

  • where can I get the styrofoam boxes used in this video? looks like they need to be sturdy, all I can find online are really light weight
