President Rajapaksa has pointed out that it is the obligation of public representatives to contribute to the victory of routing terrorism from the country. He was addressing a ceremony organized at the President Secretariat to swear in the Western Province Cabinet..
He said their responsibilities had further increased with the victory handed in by the people at the Provincial polls to the Freedom Alliance. The President noted that as a Provincial Council elected with a peoples mandate, the members are vested with an uphill task. The countrys children should be considered as their own. Terrorism will be soon routed and on that day a critical change should take place. Next begins the development war.
68 Freedom Alliance members took oaths before the President.
Thereafter, the Chief Minister and the Cabinet was sworn in. Prasanna Ranatunga is the new Chief Minister. In addition, he will serve as Minister for Finance and Planning, Law and Order, Land, Education, Provincial Administration, Manpower and Employment and Economic Development.

Jagath Angage is the Minister for Health, Indigenous Medicine, Social Welfare, Womens Affairs and Child Probation.
The Provincial Transport, Sports and Youth Affairs, Culture and Aesthetic Affairs, Cooperative Development, Food Supplies, Distribution and Rural Development Minister is Upali Kodikara.
Nimal Lanza is the Minister for Road Development, Power and Energy, Housing and Construction, Fisheries and Tourism.
Udaya Gammanpilla took oaths as Minister for Agriculture, Agrarian Development, Irrigation, Livestock Development, Industries and Environment. The inaugural meeting of the Western Provincial Council is scheduled for the 2nd of next month when the Chairman, the Chief Government whip and the Leader of the House will be appointed.
Minister Maithripala Sirisena proposed nominations in this respect.

Multi religious leaders, Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickramanayake, Presidents Secretary Lalith Weeratunga, several Parliamentarians and leaders and representatives of constituent parties of the Freedom Alliance were present.
