This was my art coursework for the subject on foliage I made in year ten. It's not all that good but "oh well". The only reason I have posted this on you tube is to influence people doing G.C.S.E art to do an animation (oh, and maybe get it shown on British TV... just to show my mate up who said it was rubbish)

This short animation is a symbol for reproduction (I know its lame but I was only 15 when I had made it). The apple symbolises the apple of a parents eyes (a copy of the original relative item). The cartoon would appear so much more meaningful you were able to read the book, which I made with it. I would like to apologise about the poor video quality, but I had only 3 weeks to draw the slides, scan each slide separately and figure out how to put it onto a working program so that others could see it. This was because I also had to produce a book with the cartoon with artists, drawings, research, ideas, methods and other arty stuff ...oh and I have a life (shocking I know). I think that I am the first to create and animation for G.C.S.E art in England (well I'm certain I was the first in my school) and I had never been shown how to animate so I am actually quite proud of what I have achieved. There is nothing drawn on the cartoon using the computer (accept for the name in the corner), so it is not as easy as using a computer software's which takes away all the fun.

ANIMATION IS A FORM OF ART... NOT AN I.C.T THING

I would recommend that others should make a cartoon using pencil a and paper for your art coursework, as it is original and different than everyone else (unless everyone does it) just remember to mention my name (I am that sad)

  • im doing landscape as my third peice or second peice (im not sure if one counts). im doing loads of awesome psychadelic trees and then a horrible city next to them. it would be cool to do something like this. did u do it at school or at home. if in school was it in exam conditions or not

  • This was only coursework and not final exam piece, but i sadily had to draw all the frames in class time , but luckly, my teacher said i could take frames home and scan them in to the computer in my own time. ask your teacher if you could do it at home because adding up 2 lessosn in 6 weeks, it took 12 hours to do... if your not confident in doing this, i wouldnt even try. I did try to do this in exam conditions in As graphics, i almost went MAD :( and ended up worse. but try anyway =]

  • how u do it???

  • draw each frame and scan them in and put them in a powerpoint presentation... but for your own health and safety, dont do it in an exam (its not realy humanly possible withouy making yourself ill) but if you realy wnat to, do it (can be fun if your under no preasure)

  • how long did it take??

  • about two weeks, but i had to do a book to go with it, which took like 1 and a half months

i would surgest anyone thinking of doing an animation for g.c.s.e to reconsider (you got to know what you are doign before you do it or you will end up gogin insane from mistakes)

also dotn try do flash animations or animee for g.c.s.e art (my mate tryed and he got E)

  • i plan to do animation in my art gcse ( I am in year 9) :D

  • wow! that was amazing! trees are so hard to draw ;(

  • wow! that was amazing! A!!!!

  • lovely!

  • we have to do ALL our coursework/homework at home. It sucks. I have no social life.

and a crap art teacher :D

  • soz for double post: btw, your school may have discouraged animation, but that isnt a nationwide thing thankfully. I did an animation for my GCSE (on whiteboard rather than with pencil) and have seen quite a few others. I think the main reason animation isnt used for GCSE is because of how time consuming it is, rather than it not being considered art.
