The rising cost of gasoline is causing hardships to many families, especially in poorer countries. Thus, an alternative-to-gasoline contest has been launched in Metro Vancouver. Can you hack your car to get it to run [even partially] on batteries, waste cooking oil, electrolysed water like HHO, or some other gas or liquid? Anybody can enter this contest. However, the vehicle must be modified, or "modded". This contest ends on October 15, 2008.

Here's an analogy: During the early '80s, individual tinkerers soldered in their basements to create the personal computer, and took computing monopoly from mainframes. The Personal Computer was born from those basement experiments.

Today, we need to create Personal Energy by finding an alternative to gasoline. Therefore, let's begin this contest to "hack the car".

What will win? The car or truck that has the biggest percentage reduction of gasoline use, per mile, per lb. of gross vehicle weight, will take the prize. The vehicle must be presently licensed in BC and driven regularly. An engineer who holds a Masters in engineering is this contest's judge.

Rex Weyler has offered his signed "Greenpeace" manuscript as a prize. Weyler's book has surprising entries: That the I Ching was used by the Greenpeace brass for decisions; and, that Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau ordered the Russians to pick up a nuclear bomb that the Russians had allegedly planted in Vancouver harbour.

Other prize donors include VanPrint, Silbury Education Centre, Van East Eco Team, and the Bike Doctor. Other prize donors are invited to come forward.
