That's exactly what door operators are suposed to do, as you said, but not KONE's. You can ride them with the doors partially opened. At least it won't go if pried too far. They will shut if the outer doors move any.

@georgef551 That's interesting you mentioned Payne. I believe Payne uses GAL door operators, at least the 4 I've been on did. When an elevator is idle, there is not power to the door operator, so you can do whatever the hell you want to them. However, if the elevator has to move, the door operator receives power to keep the doors clammed shut. That sounds like what happened with your Payne elevators. I am returning to those elevators in April, along with another trip to Boston.

We all know that KONE has impecable door operators. You can open them by hand, and run the lift! :)
(Hell, even Payne's operators is flimsy, but if you crack the door, it'll close tight first, before moving.)

@georgef551 Your absolutely right. This stupid little crap is what earns them such a horrible reputation, when really they are a great company. KONE is the same way, but of course people don't see the numerous KONE flaws, only their "beauty". Although, the infamous Heights at The Westchester says that Crate and Barrel needs to maintain a bit more!!! :D

C'mon, now. It's a Schindler. We can't have them running perfectly (or well, or okay) over time. :)

Such stupid problems with the elevator that could easily be fixed, like reducing the volume of the chimes and actually oiling the door.

Unlike other malls I've been to. :)
Yeah, I generally don't use them, and when I do, it's usually those malls that don't have them everywhere.
Go figures.

@georgef551 They are placed throughout the mall.
it takes forever to level....
