China Sparks Protest in Seattle

Hundreds of protesters gathered at the foot of Seattle's Federal building today to protest against China and their human rights violations of the Tibetan people.

So far China has closed off the Tibet region, inducing there side of Mt. Everest (the world's tallest mountain), to all foreigners & the media. They have been accused of arresting hundreds of monks and nuns, and killing upwards of 100 Tibetans.

So far the national media has not given this much attention. A check on CNN.com shows Tibet on the lower half of the site, towards the bottom, where most of the advertisements are. The Seattle media has not been much better, the SeattleTimes.com has placed Tibet towards the bottom as well.

This week the city of San Francisco restricted a permit to protesters wanting to protest the Olympic Torch, when it passes through the only North American city before heading to China. This from the city that allows "Code Pink", to shut down our military requiting stations, but not protest the Olympic Torch bound for Beijing?

The protesters today wanted to highlight the plight of all Tibetans, who now can't speak because of the media blackout & oppression in Tibet.

Some talked about the fact that most Tibetans don't mind being part of China, they just want basic human rights such as freedom of religion, and freedom of speech. What is happening in Tibet would be like the US Government taking away rights of the people of Porto Rico or Guam.


Overall there were many people that were eager to speak for the Tibetans.


Is China taking a gamble that the American people will stand by while this continues?

Double Standards:

It's OK for the Seattle police to cracked down the WTO riot. But is's no OK for Chinese governmnet to stopped the riot in Tibet. What about the L.A. OJ Simpson riot? Can you blame the LAPD and the National Guard? May be we should just let the whole L.A. burned down to the ground because we don't want to violated anybody's human rights.

I think this is a good point, this is how you debate.

I think Beijing would look allot better if they would quit demonizing the Dalai Lama and work with him, he is preaching nonviolence, and if some Tibetans are resorting to violence, if he is installed by Beijing as the leader of Tibet (ROC) then he might be able to stop the violence and bring Tibet and Beijing together.

Wow...American propaganda is good...so much lies about china..The chinese gov is horrible and dissapointing for tolerating those bastards causing trouble in their country, they belong to china they need to accept that instead of starting trouble and violence..the chinese need to wake up and deal with problem.
