"Meshes of the Afternoon undoubtedly ranks among the most influential, most remarkable and widely viewed of all avant-garde films. Maya Deren, a filmmaker, theorist, poet, dancer, choreographer, photographer and pioneer in experimental filmmaking in the United States promoted the independent cinema and inspired filmmakers for over fifty years across the globe. My interest was to develop an analytical view and approach that could assist me in producing an interesting and, most of all, successful electronic film score, in terms of guiding the viewer throughout the film and creating an appropriate atmosphere for Derens fragile and tenuously interconnected mesh of actual and perceived reality".
