An aging overhead power cable broke this morning causing an electrical fault that paralysed the entire central Melbourne train network. This caused major delays across Victoria not only to the train system (both country and metropolitan) but also flow on effects of people jamming the roads attempting to get to work via alternate methods. As reported on Channel 7 6pm evening news 27 July 2010
Oh god guess what train brought the power line and Victoria down. A Siemens.

@Dalts1985 I think the driver was even more freaked out with the female reporter...

@kingreviwer the cabling was there before metro came on board. at least this incident has flagged to them that this is a notorious hot spot and contingencies need to be in place. it may in fact start a process to proactively review cabling at these exchanges.
ps you should breath

Next story - Journalist and insider fined for walking on Rail Tracks!!
Poor driver on the Horn and dropping the air, you can really get out of the way in high heeled shoes on Ballast eh?
Paul Mees (one of the leading transport experts - except for safety) next time instead of your own glory on channel 7 think about the Journo and camera crews life before doing shit like that.

As a NSW SRA Rail Safety Worker, I wonder if "Doctor Mees" had permission to be in the rail corridoor! Of course not! W/-in the danger zone & no safety vest!
No wonder the driver got stuck into the horn as he came round the bend!
