We took a five-hour detour so you don't have to. Washington DC (Arlington VA if you want to be picky) to Raleigh via Virginia's long, dull eastern shore.

Highlights include the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel at 8:00; while it is an amazing thing, I dunno if it was worth five extra hours.

  • What was the turn around into Delaware on US 13 NB? Just to clinch US 13 in Maryland? I had a similar situation over the summer time where i already drove US 50. I was going to Annapolis from the Virginia Eastern Shore so I ended up taking DE/MD 404 which i felt was faster than US 50 and shorter.

  • @jerseyman4 The truth is actually much more mundane: I only did it so I could say I've been in Delaware :)

  • I'm in Delaware.

  • Two things to point out: As soon as you cross back to land on the CBBT, you're in Virginia Beach NOT Norfolk. You hit Norfolk when you get to the Hampton Roads Beltway (I-64). US 13 uses local boulevards and never goes on any Interstates.
