  • It's pointless to get a contractor's license in California when the state will not do anything about illegal aliens workers who can do the work cheaper and are a protected class or people here in California. If they don't pay taxes on all thier labor then why should I . And if you are licensed you will not be able to compete with the illegals because you will have to always bid higher to pay all the taxes , insurance , and fees. It's a joke.

  • The "enforcement" that I have personally seen here in Oregon tends to focus on burning poor low income workers who are trying to strike out on their own after being considered unemployable due to age, criminal convictions, or both. Often a spotty work history or something else that prevents them from being accepted into the unions which are only employing about 25% of their Journeymen in the "up" season. The bad thing is the guys getting burned are the small "guy with a truck and tools" types.

  • "I looked back on those years when I was paid cash under the table, and there is nothing there for me..."

LOL, that is because this worker accepted cash wages and did NOT report it to the IRS and subsequently did NOT pay 15.2% self employment taxes on it - which would have funded his social security account for those year.

You reap what you sow, LOL LOL
