In a stream like that you really have to sneak up on the fish. Probably not a good idea to have the kids walking next to the fishing.

I wouldnt use fly fishing for small streams like that, a worm and size 14 triple hook works the best, without anything else but a rod and reel. Just let your hook flow downstream a ways then reel back in.
