A Rome priest whose parish celebrates only the pre-Vatican II Tridentine Mass under Pope Benedict XVI's 2007 authorization for expanded use of Latin in the liturgy, talks to CNS about the enduring appeal of tradition to Catholics today. Father Joseph Kramer is a member of the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter, established by Blessed John Paul II in 1988 to train priests for traditionalist followers of excommunicated Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre who wish to be reconciled with the Catholic Church. The old generation is dying down, they left a terrible heritage of destruction. Empty pews, empty monasteries, empty convents. Now is the time for the young to come forward and restore what was destroyed.

I'm 30, and I do. What does age have to do with this?

I accept the 2nd Vatican Council, but I do prefer the old ways however unlike some I can accept them- I admire the SSPX and love to attend the Traditional Mass when I can, I wish it had never changed but it did and well that's that. I wish we had the old Mass though.

Fr. Kramer is right. The traditional chapels and parishes are packed with young families (who don't use natural/artificial contraception) while the NO parishes are half empty with grey hairs and bald heads. A TLM is like walking into a nursery ward and most OF Masses are like walking into a bingo hall. Psalms 126:3 (DRB)

I grew up in "modern Catholic" schools. Almost everyone I know left the faith after high school and the few who kept the faith go to the TLM offered by the SSPX/FSSP/Diocese.
