Somewhere in Northern Russia in a small Russian Orthodox monastery lives a very unusual man. His fellow-monks are confused by his bizarre conduct. Those who visit the island believe that the man has the power to heal, exorcise demons and foretell the future. However, he considers himself unworthy because of a sin he committed in his youth. The film is a parable, combining the realities of Russian everyday life with monastic ritual and routine.

  • It was good but i was expecting a more convoluted story. Someone said this was in their top three movies of all time.

  • What an inspiring film.

    Blessed be God.

  • Came across this "OSTROV" unexpectedly. What a good film, was funny in some places. Nice to know monks have humore also and at times lose patience. it's very difficult to walk the walk.

  • @the0th You call that living????? Serving GOD and constantly asking for forgivness for his sin is what he was doing.!!!!! Don't we all live with sin day in day out??????????

  • @fjdmusicman He didn't until Fr. Anatoli started to tell him the story. Then he realized who Fr. Anatoli is.

  • @fjdmusicman the admiral as the man he shot.

  • @woodyaan there is no canonized way for exorcism. There are two sermons that are used very often (The prayers -or curses- os St Vasile the Great and the Prayer of St Ciprian) but there is no canonised way. It is only prayer, confessions (of both the possessed and his family), eucharist. You are very much mistaken.
