This video I had taken in 1986 using a Panasonic PK-958 video camera and a portable VCR, it was no fun lugging that big heavy stuff around.
I had recorded this at the Indian Ranch in Webster, Mass. back in the good ol' days when a person was able to record shows there.
Back when country music was still COUNTRY.

  • Boxcar Willie, born as Lecil Travis Martin (September 1, 1931 – April 12, 1999) was an American country music singer, who sang in the "old-time hobo" music style, complete with dirty face, overalls, and a floppy hat."Boxcar Willie" was originally a character in a ballad he wrote, but he later adopted it as his own stage name.

Martin was a first cousin to the actor Tommy Lee Jones, who is also from Texas.

  • OMG.... Willie was in Ohio in 1980-1981 and it was great. I was just a baby and my dad and my mom still has the picture of me and boxcar. My mom laughed and said," Hunny, when you was a baby we seen your favorite singer... and let me tell you, you slept so soundly through everything until you heard boxcar willie, then you came alive and was dancing everywhere.... I really miss those times! Ty Willie for all the great memories.

  • Hi,thank you for uploading such a great great singer and a great man.

Much more depth than his appearance showed, loved his voice never heard his slow songs till recently then became a huge fan.

One of the true country music legends.

    Thanks for sharing.

  • Loved Boxcar's music... he's sadly missed - RIP Box

  • I was at this show. I think I was 17 at the time. What a flashback!!! :)

  • You know, to look at him you'd think he was some ignorant homeless redneck but the guy was actually a B-29 pilot & Flight engineer in the early 50's! He died way too young.

  • aw rightie! luvz dat boxcar!

  • You're a lucky man.I have loads of Willie's vinys but can't play them cause my record broke : (
