It's worth noting (after recalling how magical and beautiful the music is) that Tchaikovsky hated the Siloti version, who edited out more than 100 bars from the original. This is not exactly the way Tchaikovsky wrote it - with the violin and cello exposing the beautiful main theme in full before the piano has it. A Triple Concerto, in effect. The 'Siloti' version and some pianist's edits are not the same thing. Great stuff though, isn't it?

Nice. And I'm reminded of why I decided to branch out past classical...

If being elitist is promoting the music as Tchaikovsky actually *wrote* it then, yes, I'll cop to be being elitist. The Siloti version is a horrible butchering of the content, meaning, purpose, and spirit of the music. And, yes, I am actually advocating that this version should be banned. It's a travesty.

Geez, snobby much? I agree it's missing probably the best part, but if you're actually advocating *banning* it, you're insane.
I quite liked it even though I was disappointed by the missing part. Chill out, there's more to life than being elitist.

Tchaikovsky *should* be tormented. This is the butchered Siloti version of the 2nd movement--which should never, ever be performed anymore! You should hear this movement *only* in its original, as Tchaikovsky wrote it--as an extended piano trio with orchestra, and this version should be banned.
I love this movement. I think it ranks among some of the best music ever written.
You can almost hear how tormented Tchaikovsky was.
