Oh....and in younger days, my Dad always woke us kids up whistling "when the red, red robin goes bob, bob, bobbing along.....)! :)

I'll admit, you don't hear LADIES whistling very often. More's the pity.

I don't really whistle that often. I never do at home, 'cause I don't feel like it. But for some reason, I whistle alot when I'm with my friends... probably because I'm happy when I'm with my friends? haha. Some of my friends whistle often, especially the guys. My history teacher knows how to whistle loudly with his fingers and without his fingers, which I'm really jealous of, but I've heard him whistling regularly too. So I guess it hasn't really faded away, because I still hear it. :]

I could never whistle with my fingers & was always very jealous of my childhood friends who could.

As i said, i do think a lot of us whistle because we're happy, which is good to see & hear :)

My Mother always told me that "LADIES" did not whistle - This tomboy kept whistling anyway! I don't have a good singing voice, but I sure can whistle a tune! Of course, I try to be aware in public, so hopefully NOT to ANNOY anyone.

I just remembered. Some years back we had this dutch song that made the charts that was about this. Lyrics something like this: In the early days people wisteled and sang all day. The butchers boy could sing an opera. The milkman whisteled while he put water in the milk. Chorus: Radio did not exsist yet. Everybody had his own voice. From every building site there came a song. I don't recall hearing my father whistling. But, i'm sure he used to.

That's possibly why it may be dying out. it's not being passed on to the children :)
