A state lawmaker has filed a resolution to start the process of trying to impeach Judge Sharon Keller.
She's the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals Judge who declined to keep her office open past 5 p.m. for a death row inmate's attorneys to file his final appeals.
Michael Richard was executed that night in 2007.
Democratic Representative Lon Burnam's resolution accuses Keller of "gross neglect of duty."
"I hope she resigns. I mean, the honorable thing to do would be for her to simply recognize that she messed up in a way she can not compensate for. I mean a person is dead here. She should just resign," Burnam said.
If the resolution passes, a committee would be formed to investigate Judge Keller.
She is a republican who has served on the court since 1994.
