A Rock Star is Born, Rock on!

Joey Chaos, Hanson Robotics latest robot, was introduced at the RoboBusiness Conference & Expo 2007 in Boston, MA, and is the most recent member of Hanson's robotic family.

Hanson Robotics was founded for one purpose: to design, develop, produce and distribute revolutionary, interactive bio-inspired conversational robots, including the world-famous Albert-Hubo. Hanson's family of anthropomorphic robots display a unique, artificial subconscious, partly due to their cognitive understanding of language-based interactive speech, conversational capabilities and genuine eye contact, coupled with a full range of human facial expressions thanks to the development of Frubber™, or "flesh rubber", their proprietary spongy, structured elastic polymer that expertly mimics the movement of real human musculature and skin using 1/20th the power of other existing materials.

Hanson's robots exhibit the highest level of physical functionality in the industry using an advanced motion-control system to walk, talk, maintain eye contact, recognize faces and speech patterns, and simulate a real person's personality. All of this is achieved through our advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) software architecture.

All of Hanson's robots have a cognitive understanding of the English language, can make eye contact with people, recognize faces and capture the attention of their conversation partner by using a full range of human-like facial expressions.

Pretty amazing stuff.

  • Consider this:

-We can make very realistic human like flesh.

-We can make voice software that sounds realistic

-Software can: Recognise age, gender, faces, objects, etc

-Robots can now walk, run, hear, touch, feel, etc

-We can make robot hands/arms that can move extremely fast and accurately

-Computer hardware is getting:faster cheaper smaller

What does this add up to? Robots are possible NOW! We just to get all this stuff together in one project, and it'll happen!

  • @rossothecrimson7 you're in a johnny cab!

  • @gradyiscool That arm is awesome, lol. And that WOULD be fantastic :D

  • @MiniStrawberryCakes9 That's right, now you girls can have all the disturbed fantasies us guys have been having for years! Welcome to the club! *hi5's* :D

  • @DistortedCookie Just checked out the HRP-4C, very nicely made! I'd love to see the software/robotics of this project: ?v=-KxjVlaLBmk being combined with something like the HRP-4C, that kind of fast, highly accurate body movement across an entire robot body would be fantastic. We could be make robots capable of breakdancing/performing gymnastic tricks better than humans. :D (Video link isn't spam, honestly it's on topic! I swear!)

  • @gradyiscool Now wouldn't that be awesome :)

I think that even without all these pre-existing technologies being combined, there is still a very good chance that we will see fully-autonomous, AI, humanoid robots by 2017. It's a long-shot, but there are indopendant companies out there with the passion, if not the funding, to bring that dream to life. Soon.

Also, ave you heard of HRP-4C? She's an awesome piece of engineering. She's not AI, but her physical capabilities are astounding.

  • @DistortedCookie Very true! And like I said in my comment, that's the only thing holding us back, that all these breakthroughs haven't been combined into one project, because as you say, all the technologies belong to different companies. If one big company, (for eg: Sony, Microsoft, Apple, Google, etc) started now on a mission to acquire all these smaller companies or these specific technologies from their rivals, we could see a very awesome robot happen by 2017 even.

  • @gradyiscool Unfortunately, those technologies all belong to different companies, and they don't seem to have the urge nor the money to colaborate and *make* robots. Which sucks, lol. But, that doesn't mean it wont happen; just that it will take a while longer to happen. I can't wait till I can buy my own robot slave >:3

  • i am primitive but i will evolve....wow

  • lol i wonder how they think and i they seee shit like we do

  • Clearly modeled on a politician - Never answers a question!

  • The voice sounds like a suit !
