Yes I suppose you could just use beetroot... or you could use red food coloring... but that's not how its done...

Good video. One thing tho'. It seems like a waste of a lot of water to peel them under a running tap when we are told to save water. We usually put the eggs in a large bowl and fill it with water then crack all the eggs quickly which helps stop the shell sticking to the egg. Then we peel them into another bowl and put the eggshells on the compost heap. Also would the eggs turn purple if you just added beetroot juice to the vinegar?
