I know this is an old video but yeah, that is AWFUL. By the way, horses CANNOT breathe through their mouths; they are mechanically incapable of doing so. The open mouth is just a sign of desperation to breathe. Poor thing! I don't know much about roaring (that's what it's called) but I hope that the horse is doing OK now.
I just came across this and was wondering how this horse is doing? Everything I've ever heard about horse's breathing through the mouth is definitely not good since they are obligate nasal breathers... have you had her scoped? I would bring her to a vet school or larger clinic that can do endoscopy on a treadmill... could be due to epiglottal cysts, DDSP, or something of the like.
Most likey NOT a training issue ;) Definatly look into this, it is by far not normal!
