The piece utilizes elements of the gamelan orchestra in new ways while combining them with the sounds of the Chinese erhu. Performers: Joy Lu (erhu soloist) & Wesleyan Javanese Gamelan (led by Sumarsam and I.M. Harjito). Date and place: April 30, 2009, World Music Hall, Wesleyan University, CT, USA. Note of the soloist: Joy Lu is a musician, scholar, educator, and conductor. She received a B.A. in erhu performance and music education from National Taiwan Normal University, and a M.A. in Ethnomusicology from the University of Sheffield, U.K. She is a Ph.D. student in Ethnomusicology at Wesleyan, also the instructor of Wesleyan Chinese ensemble.
Well done Joy,
I like the combination. Gamelan music and erhu go well.
ps, I am going to forward this to my Gamelan musician friends.

The query is that is it Chinese or Javanese Gamelan composition?
As soon as erhu was played, I have impression like hearing Chinese song played on Javanese Gamelan rather than erhu playing Javanese music.
Either way is great, Congratulation Joy Lu.
