who needs googles when you have smartphones.

...seems really ingenious, creating a visual tour guide of the city as long as the markers are in place and tourists had access to rented goggles. Great for popular tourist areas. The uses in museums for educational purposes are great to make learning fun for kids as well- they talked about this. Of course, none of this is really ESSENTIAL, but there is potential and that's all that matters.

Why all the hostility towards this new technology? I'm sure it has some good uses that creative people will come up with eventually and as the technology becomes more advance. Right now I guess it has large potential for commercial use if there is a way to make widespread use of the lenses easy/accessible. Perhaps in places like amusement parks or motion-simulator rides? Imagine Shrek 3D with augmented reality goggles instead! Or perhaps on a roller coaster? The city map idea they showed

But you don't WANT to be out of the job of raising your child! WHAT would be the point of parents BEING THERE IN THE FIRST PLACE! BLOODY HELL they're trying to seriously make us completely DEPENDED on technology. We musn't let them do this...

New craze?

Yeah well im pretty sure many people would want to keep their eye. I wouldnt replace my own eye just to get the features you specified.

Given the need for contacts and glasses to correct failing vision, replacing the human eye with a superior synthetic option with features like augmented reality, and various spectrum sights would be a very useful upgrade. My only concern would be preventing the spread of networking such implants. Receiving data is fine. That's what eyes do presently. I don't want other people to see what I see anymore than tune in to my thoughts.
