http://westernfolklife.org From the 2008 National Cowboy Poetry Gathering, Red Steagall introduces young Texas cowboy poet, Oscar Auker, to recite fellow Texas poet, Larry McWhorter's "Cowboy Count Your Blessings."
This poem relates a lot to what i have been around. I hadnt seen a dally man outside the arena til i was 13. Hard and fast is the only way to go. Gret poem.
Larry McWhorter was the first to catch my ear with Cowboy poetry in Round Rock Texas years ago. I knew he had "been there". He had it in soul! He was best in his word trade! And his daddy, Frankie, a Texas Playboy & Cowboy by trades. That said it all! I know them two are up there ridin' for the Lord and helpin' with them ol' problem horses. And if there's house dances in Heaven, them, Bob Wills, & Hoyle Nix are gittin' after it! God Bless them and the likes of Oscar Auker! Down In Texas.
