Completely disagree with the above; Iris' percussion was much more subtle than these comments would suggest, and the band dynamic was as good as it's been in years.

really enjoyed both gigs, but the Edinburgh concert edged it for me...the sound balance was very good down the front.

Live percussion ovelayed on backing percussion is usually a dogs dinner, unless the backing is stripped down for live performance, that said, I still think Iris needs to learn to moderate..the distortion on this clip unfortunately makes it sound even louder, nice post though.

If I wanted incessant mind numbing, overpowering drums I'd buy Robert Palmer's Greatest Hits. I wouldn't expect it from the great artist who helped bring us classics like Rubycon, Force Majeure, Tangram, Logos, Poland and some of the great more recent TD albums for that matter. It was like being at an '80s disco...for 3 hours....and that's just not funny.

After 45 minutes, the drums began to irritate. After two hour and 45 minutes it was like having a woodpecker drilling inside your head. Any objective music listener will tell you the band was straitjacketed in a rigid film soundtrack/drums formula that hardly changed all night. But given the gullible, loud and uncritical applause that some fans gave them there wasn't much incentive for them to try harder and take a few risks !?

I wouldn't say the drums were subtle. She was enjoying herself, which is great but she was bashing the hell out of them.

Agreed about the incessant drumming, much as I enjoyed the view - she did keep my attention during the blander bits though :)

I have to agree with Tangy1981 above. While it was a good light show and the keyboards and guitar were melodious as you'd expect, the show was ruined by those appalling top heavy and overloud drums that just went on and on and on... I can't fathom why such a talented musician as Edgar Froese insists on being uptempo, uptempo, uptempo all the way through his live shows with so little variation in the dynamic.

TD's albums seem to have been back on course lately after a spell of drabness stretching back almost twenty years. With that in mind I was expecting a lot from the Forum show but I was disappointed.

When TD are on form the musical dynamic is varied with both gentle and powerful sections. The Forum show was ruined by loud drumming throughout almost the whole set, destroying any trace of subtlety.....and doesn't Linda Spa fancy herself! Smug isn't the word. Sadly it was all a bit cabaret.
