African American civil rights workers and elected officials recall the indignities and brutality of racial discrimination and their personal experiences in winning the right to share political power. Interwoven are images that enhance the drama of these heartbreaking and courageous narratives. A Kinocraft production.

Part of a five-part series called In the Land of Jim Crow, these films offer a historical look at the de jure/de facto segregation that left African Americans behind. Even after the abolition of Jim Crow laws, they continue to have an impact on U.S. society today. 22 minutes, color.
