Sam Explains His Fears for Amanda; Mac Calls the Police, 1989

Sam explains to Mac and Iris why he has the feeling Amanda is in trouble: she's away on an assignment and not only is she not home yet, but she has only called once, and it was a weird phone call at that. When Amanda called, she sounded strange, and she called Sam "Sammy," and she never calls him that. Amanda didn't specify a location, so Sam has no idea where she was calling him from, and she has called the one time. None of this is like Amanda. No one Sam has talked to at Brava knows a thing, and he hasn't been able to get hold of Evan, but he left a message for Evan to call him. Mac wants to call the police, but Sam says he already did that before coming over and since Amanda did call Sam once, they refuse to classify her as missing. Sam hates to ask, but he wants to know if Mac would call the commissioner and get him to give this top priority. Mac calls the commissioner right away and explains the situation, and the commissioner agrees to send an officer out to take statements from each of them and then they'll look into it officially. Sam doesn't know what to tell the officer, though, because Amanda just dropped out of sight and all he got was one 30-second phone call. Sam decides to call Julie Ann Edwards, Zack's sister and a receptionist at Cory Publishing, and berates himself for not making Amanda talk to him and tell him where she was when she did call. Mac tries to console Sam by pointing out that Sam was treating Amanda the way she wanted to be treated, but Sam says if anything happens to Amanda, he'll never forgive himself.
