    There's no actual rule that all 8-bit sprites can only have 3 colors ,

    such was only the case for NES and GameBoy/GBC.

    Take also into consideration that on older systems a sprite usually wasn't the entire character ,

    but instead a 8x8 or 8x16 pixel section of it.

    So in megaman for example they used a couple of sprites to make his body ,

    and another sprite for the face.

    But there's plenty of other 8-bit machines that have other restrictions.

  • @robotwo Actually, come to think of it there are tonnes of games with sprites that have more than three colours, that rule is total BS
