it looks like the dog knows the cat wanted to go out -- dog indicated (as friends co-op now and then) that cat needs to go out -- now cat's angry -- dog gets slapped -- dog felt the pinch later after claw -- dog mad cause he just wanted to show the owner how smart he is by being good and indicating cat/ friends desire to go out!! Should've let the cat out dude.
