Rinat Ibragimov, principal double bass of the London Symphony Orchestra, performs Bach's 3rd Cello suite, which he hopes will help encourage student bass players to explore Baroque playing and Bach's music in particular.

  • Well... back to the woodshed for me!

  • @TecWhizJr I've seen the "german" style super arch baroque bows as well. I know that my teacher at Otterbein received a Baroque bow and it looked exactly like this. I mean it is probably like an imitation of the feel because it definitely has a different center of gravity and is much lighter than the modern bow.

  • @hkoncelik I doubt this is a period bow, as baroque bows are arched. Mr Ibragimov is holding somewhat past the frog, where modern bassist hold it, as it is an imitation of the period style technique.

  • is It is a baroque bow LSO is famous for doing historically accurate performances, sometimes including gut strings rather than the steel ones here. Makes sense that Rinat would be using a period bow for this piece being a part of LSO

  • @Lso thank you very much

  • @JupiterAdept Mmmmmm u r right!

  • A triumph of technique and musicality transcending the usually accepted limitations of the instrument. Bravo sir.
