@andyindublinireland the F35 is fast becoming a white elephant. it's not going to meet it's spec, it stealth design means they can't change the airframe now to make changes, and moving the stuff around inside the same limited space just ain't going to work.

in the end, UK is going to be force to buy them anyway, since the alternative is they having an expensive floating piece of metal that can't do anything.

No its going to be the F35 - which is basically going to be the standard NATO aircraft for the next 20 years. Not a bad piece of kit for W. Europe and the US to have. It will give China and Russia something to think about. The aircraft carrier as I understand it, is being converted to catobar and and not vtol - so harriers wouldnt be required, plus they are ending their life as kit, although the usmc have them now.

sooo cool video but I bet anything they will use Harrier anyway couse f35 have so many issues and its cancelled...rafale or f18e are much better options

@k4n3n1 Yes the F18 is being upgraded but the F35 isn't going to be ready until 2018-2020 so it makes sense for the F18's to be upgraded. And look at Australia they're getting F35's to replace their older F18's. The USN is going to replace the F18 with the F35. The F35 is not better than the F22, the US won't sell the F22 because it is the best fighter in the world. The F35 is good enough and will do the job it has been designed for... if it can land back on the deck.

@k4n3n1 I like the US and the USN and I am not arrogant enough to pretend that the Royal Navy is better than the USN. But it is far better than the French Navy. The Charles De Gaulle is shit... it was delayed going to Libya because she broke down before she had even left French Waters. She breaks all the time. As I said, the USN is number 1 but the Royal Navy is number 2.

@MrXray2011 not true the super hornet is getting updated even as we speak. like the f-15 silent eagle, its got more stealth than the russian pakfa and the chinese stealth jet, which compared to the americans is 1960 technology, the only reason the russians and the chinese have stealth, is because the f-117 night hawk which was shot down over serbia in the late 90's, but the night hawk have 1960-70 stealth technology, the f-22 is the only real steath fighter, only if we know what is in area 51.
