Honestly though it wasn't always canned asparagus. My Mom would also buy really fresh asparagus at first, and even grew it in N.Y., and we had to wait a year for the next crop or something.
With all the eggs, and sauce, lots of cream, it sort of cover up a lot of the asparagus taste. The best is to use baby asparagus.

That is wonderful AldousLeary! The recipe calls for a can of asparagus... i think. I almost made the recipe once, but honestly i do not cook much. I ended up just having an egg salad sandwich.
I just cleaned my kitchen 2 years ago and found the can of asparagus i was going to use. It was 12 years old. I thought it was too old to give away, so i threw it out. I was thinking of pulling a mad max, and opening the can, but got on the internet instead.

@D3R3K1600 I agree. I think i read it during my twenties and thirties, 3 or 4 times i enjoyed it so much. I found by the time i was almost finished with the novel i felt like i was a mind reader.
