2009 Most Fascinating Haitian

By Smith Georges

New York He is not charismatic. He is perceived as being too passive. People close to him say that he is as cool as a cucumber as if la vie est belle every day. He is the head of state of one of the poorest countries in the world. He has played his so-called twin brother Titid and his constituents, who help him win a second term like a piano. He has gotten married three times (twice while in office.) He learns how to play ball with his neighbors, the right and the left. He can be credited for undertaking major road construction in Haiti. Unlike his predecessor, He does not make promises that he cannot keep. He is known as a no-nonsense administrator. When his Prime Minister could not account for $190 million U.S dollars that were spent, he used the political system in what observers term as a constitutional coup to get rid of her. He is now well protected by MINUSTAH forces (UN troops in Haiti). He is about to make history as the first democratically and constitutionally elected president of Haiti to serve two full terms without any coup detat interruption. He criticized for being too cozy-buddy-buddy with the president of the Dominican Republic Leonel Fernandez despite a wave of violence against Haitian workers living in the Dominican Republic. Rumor has it that his campaigned was financed by Mr. Fernandez. Others see his non-confrontational foreign policy style as nothing but facing the reality instead of provoking a backlash whereas tens of thousands of Haitians could be repatriated to Haiti. It has been estimated that there are currently one million Haitians residing and working in the Dominican Republic (Most of them are believed to be illegal.)

Willingly or maybe under pressure, he keeps his so-called twin brother Aristide at bay by locking Haitis gate to prevent him from coming out of exile in Johannesburg, South Africa to return to Haiti. President Aristide has become so frustrated, he blasted him like a tsunami during a recent interview. In spite of all the criticism, he did not respond. He continues to keep his cool. The Haitian people refer to him as Pawol tafia (Translation from Haitian Creole: Alcohol addict talk) alluding to his affinity for alcohol.

People wonder if the reality of a todays Haiti, and particularly after witnessing how his so-called twin brother former President jean-Bertrand Aristide ran into so much trouble with unfulfilled promises and confrontations with the business and wealthy class in Haiti, as well as with the international community. He chooses the survival road by learning how to SHUT UP! With that approach, he becomes diplomatic and a skillful politician who has learned how to navigate in Haitis political sharks infested water. He plans to remain in Haiti, not in exile, after serving his second term. To sweeten the deal before he reaches the end of his historical second term, he has rewarded himself by marrying his 47-year-old economic advisor and sweetheart Ms. Elisabeth Delatour.

By now you should know who I am referring to. Yes, his name is Rene Garcia Preval, the 65-year-old current president of Haiti. For better or for worse, we have chosen President Preval of Haiti as the 2009 Most Fascinating Haitian.

We want to take this oportunity to wish a happy Holiday Seasons to all.

  • Yeah! Yeah!...he is the Us Puppet and Titid was not your Puppet that is why he is in exile, but the Haitians know Titid is the man.

  • The way I see it, YOU DAMN IF YOU DON't, AND YOU DAMN IF YOU DO. Preval is trying to spare h is life or having to live the rest of his life in exile, which I think might happen, if the Haitian people don't get to him first. I don't believe that Preval has a mean heart. I think he really meant well for the country in the beginning. Unfortunately, he is not a strong man. He is easy to manupilate. That's why he's selling shit left and right. WHATCH OUT FOR THE HAITIAN WRATH!

  • @michelroi01 Don't even refer to Aristide as being Stupid. He was the best Haiti ever had in recent years. Aristide meant well for the Haitian people. Why do you think he did a total of 3 years in office between to terms? And the Duvalier corrupt regime was allowed to stay in office for 30 years? That was not by accident. Preval is a PUNK! He doesn't have revolutionary concept like Aristide. If he did, he would've been in exile like Aristide or dead. He's easy to manupilate.

  • @logikproduction1 Preval is stupid. But Aristide is worst than him but they are both ridiculed....

  • Did you also notice that PREVAL is making history by being: 1) The most disrespected Haitian president in decades 2) The most ridiculed man in Haiti 3) The front man of a foreign occupation 4) The most unpatriotic Haitian citizen 5) One of the most dishonest politicians in Haiti in decades 6) The most immoral presidents in decades.

You make it sound like this man is worthy of recognition for: being a nobody; and doing nothing for a population in distress. I think you should revise this video...
