Alexei Sultanov (RIP) brings all the fury Beethoven imagined in this performance from the 1986 Tchaikovsky Competition semi-finals where he was probably about 16.

  • And what's so funny?

  • Nil nisi mortuis bonum. But why do so many pianists try to show off by playing this piece at a speed they can't handle?

  • It was awesome. The passion that he put into this piece was magnificent. It is true, certain parts he could have played cleaner but however in respect to the end, this is the speed that Bethoven inteded it. I play the end exactly the same speed that he played it. Obviously some people play it slower but it was intended in this speed.

  • This is what I'm talking about. :D

  • I see here many people speaking and critisizing Alexei, but I'm not sure that they can do even 1% of what Alexei did. Besides, here he played with a broken finger and even so he didn't really have any problem with the speed. Instead of looking for mistakes pay more attention to the music, the interpretation and the emotion expressed by the pianist. RIP Alexei

  • @kdlm99 Have you ever considered that "accuracy" doesn't just include getting the notes right?

  • @Definidramin So you suppose we musn't write bad things about his perfomance because he was a concert pianist, genius ect., and we are just people, maybe musicians?))

  • Hypertrophy!

  • @Verityseo here he was 16!!

  • @slobone nerves.
