Flynt Leverett & Hamid Dabashi: Iranians do not want to overthrow the Islamic Republic

The current situation in Iran has been falsely described as an uprising of the Iranian people against their government. In reality, what is taking place is a divided nation and leadership fighting over the future vision of the Islamic Republic itself. Thus, the current struggle is taking place within the framework of the Islamic Republic as stated by the two scholars in this video. It has never been about overthrowing the government and establishing a secular republic, aspirations projected by delusional Iranian expats living in the west.

Hamid Dabashi is the Hagop Kevorkian Professor of Iranian Studies and Comparative Literature at Columbia University in New York City, the oldest and most prestigious Chair in Iranian Studies.

Hamid Dabashi said several weeks ago in his interview with Parazit that he was lying when he said this, he said it only in order to act against war in Iran and economic sanctions but said he knows most Iranian people want regime change. Here is the interview:

The “Constitution” of the Islamic regime is an insult to human intelligence – it considers a moslem women worth half of a moslem man – just imagine the ‘Infidels” (non moslems).

The “Islamic [in]justice system - family laws in particular: (polygamy, raping children in the name of marriage, temporary marriage, “sighah” - Islamic prostitution, ……..)- is an injury to humanity.
