Domingo is a great artist , he was a nice Don Jose in his young days.. Later - he was a great Samson, Othello.. well, in any opera, but NOT in Carmen. Don Jose IS for Carreras....( I even prefer Shikoff to Domingo - as Jose).Well, great artists have "their roles" and could be comparatively weak sometimes.(ex . Carreras is weak in "Pagliacci", IMO.)
And Carmen - IS for Baltsa.... So - this is the BEST pair, Carreras and her, I believe.
As for Obrastsova- never liked her too much.

Obraztsova and Domingo are better in duet, I think... Though these two artists are also great. Especially Carreras

I believe it's Claudio Abbado or Maazel conducting.
