We received a good two feet plus at Central Christian College of the Bible, essentially immobilizing us for a few days because we were inundated and ill-equipped. However, the first shots are definitely before the event took place - I wasn't insane enough to go out in it except for meals (which were really basic as it stood, so I also relied on what I bought that particular Sunday).

In this set of clips we see:
1) Norfolk Southern Auto Rack train coming into the yard, then waiting for a mixed NS Freight to clear the main it's on as that train switches to the Hannibal Sub main.

2) How close the train was to pulling all the way into the yard before my battery died on me.

3) Heavy snow and some feverish work put in to at least keeping the walks somewhat clear since some folks had to rely on the cafeteria for food (e.g. the one guy I capture heading back to the dorms in the rear).

4) I step outside for a little to try to ascertain through the film how much snow has fallen already based on the depth of the footprints in the snow. Also, as you see, the bookstore was also open, which I thought just as insane as the student center being open when we knew it was going to be really bad weather event.

5) No, this student was not insane...or part of the polar bear club...or whatever you could think of. He was going to play soccer inside the gym. I declined because I'd never make it without freezing. Also, some of the group that I played Redemption with thought it'd be good idea to walk through the storm to play a card game. Close as the building might be, I didn't want to get stuck assuming we reached white-out conditions.

6) Because I'm from Texas, I'm not used to this at all, but my educated guess at this point was that these were white-out conditions. Maybe not true ones (anybody from the north in either the states or Canada feel free to enlighten me because I get to go through winter weather in Kansas soon), but it was enough that I felt justified rejecting offers to walk over to the dorms on the backside of the school, as well as not joining for Redemption or indoor soccer.

7) Not only was it incredibly windy, but it was so cold outside, my windows started condensing and freezing inside...and they weren't open. What that means for either the weather or the dorms, I don't know, but I remember the window being frozen shut the next morning.

8) Stepped outside very briefly to get a clear shot of the snow banks, the frozen-over door, and the exceptional wind that night with a little more snow due later on in the middle of the night.

  • Wow. Where I was, combined with lake effect snow, we got three and a half feet.
