@gorcho: She sang lyrically . . . not metrically, and so you feel she devastates the melody. Actually, this is the style of soul . . . to wait on the Spirit and not be regulated by meter. Miss Jackson did not strive to accommodate math/meter. She followed an invisible beat that cannot be measured. It came from deep within, and many don't understand this.
