I couldn't of said it better, GM had a chance years ago to do right, but Hummer was too important. Now with Government Motors running the show, and still not producing the vehicles people want NOW, they deserve the shit storm forcasted. I'd purchase the Tesla S anyday over the Volt! It's a shame Detroit is still asleep behind the wheel. What must we do to wake them up?

This, along with the withholding of large format NiMh patents in the US (research ovonics and COBASYS) is one of the saddest chapters in this countries history. The volt is a joke, GM can't bring themselves to make another EV1 because it would be like admitting they failed us. This was over 10 years ago, it makes me cry. :(
GM is a joke and I will never buy anything they make (unless its an EV2!! COME ON!)

i am 100% sure that if fully electric cars were offered, people would buy them. even americans. no gas, less overall cost. we need all electric cars, not hybrid volt shit. what a shame they killed this baby

Jurassic battery technology? The type of flat battery cells are not that old. There just doing things backwards, that's why there loosing money. In the 90's they should of came out with a plug-in hybrid that got let's say 10 miles pure then kick in a gen. By now they would be leaders of fuel effiency and be creating a great pure EV and still making a profit from it.
EV's will prevail and maybe GM will finally realize pure electric is the only way to go.

I think that unfortunately GM persists in the same error: they just rip off and kill the EV1 spirit.
Now they build a new 'hightech' car (Volt) that has less autonomy (40 miles) then EV1 (around 100 miles) with jurassic battery technology (15 years old)!
