  • There are less than 7 billion people in our world (about 6.9 billion to be exact). If you took the entire population of the world (all 6.9 billion people), you could fit each individual into his or her own 33 foot by 32 foot cubicle. That equals 1,058 square feet PER PERSON. The State of Texas (USA) has 262,000 square miles of dry land. That translates into 7.33 TRILLION square feet. Since there are only 6.9 BILLION people, each person could fit into a 1,058 square foot cubicle.

  • @KedarOfHope your figures are sound, Texas is a big place, but we're still in trouble.

Greater numbers means a greater strain on resources. There is no doubt that we would be collectively better off with a smaller population.

  • @imaginenoreligion the PROBLEM is not overpopulation, but greed which lends to poverty and lack. "The poor we will always have with us" as Jesus stated, not becuase the planet is overtaxed, not at all, but because many are driven by self interest, selfishness and the love of money.

  • @KedarOfHope The distribution of wealth is actually getting fairer across nations.

How many people do you think the planet can support sustainably? Give me a number.

  • @KedarOfHope As I keep saying.... it's not ABOUT how many people can fit into square footage on the Earth! It's about RESOURCE SHORTAGES from the tremendous demand that an overpopulation brings. Along with several other factors. Overpopulation isn't good for anything or anybody, and has serious consequences. There are too many people making too many problems... and we should have implemented a mandated population policy decades ago limiting each person to no more than 2 kids, period.

  • @recyclecongress Agreed. It astounds me to see people having families of more than two children. I know a family with 14 children. This is insanity in this day. It's socially irresponsible.

The greenest thing you can do is have no kids!

  • @gorypleasure - That is however the mindset of so many, go forth and multiply or be fruitful and multply, sometimes it is not so much religion but human nature to procreate, sexual intercourse is the ultimate of human pleasure and humans want pleasure more than the outcome of their actions. Population growth

is unstoppable. Human procreation cannot be stopped, How could it be stopped? We must adapt to

the wave of humanity that is inevitable. millions more babies are already on their way!!

  • Well done. This is of course a very difficult topic for people. They find it unnatural to have to curtail births, and it is in some sense, but nevertheless crucial that we do so. Dignified presentations like this give people a chance to think about it and not just dismiss the matter.

  • There will be nothing we can or need to do to fix this particular problem. Our exponential growth was a result of the of oil. We are being sustained off an energy that is being rapidly depleted, once our source of energy becomes exhausted, or so expensive it is unattainable, our population will indefinitely return back to a sustainable level. That is, of course, we keep DEPENDING on oil as our main energy source. Solar and Wind energy is the hope of the future.

  • People are saying we can fit all these people. That is true. BUT THE PLANET CANNOT KEEP UP WITH THEM

  • @KedarOfHope So What ??? What a shitty existence that would be. Anyone over the age of 35 who has CHOSEN not to have children should get a HUGE tax break. Think of all of the resources that are saved, all of the pollution that will NOT be produced. Because of US there will be more room in the schools, less traffic and more jobs will be available. You're welcome.

  • @philip0460 -50 million abortions each year around the world, so we would only have an extra

100 milllion every two years, 10 years for 1 billion. Humans like to breed, even if they don't want the babies!!!

  • @KedarOfHope

it takes about 10 acres to support one person sustainably for a year. i dont have the numbers on me atm but surface area of earth/3(two thirds is water) divided by 10 is much, much lower than 7 billion. and that's assuming every square inch of land is farmable, which couldn't be further from the truth.

  • It's all because of dumb and ignorant asian motherfuckers

  • @imaginenoreligion taking into consideration that the entire worlds population, theoretically, could fit into the State of Texas, that leaves a lot of extra land mass to produce and harvest a lot of food, wouldnt you say? The earth is plenty big to sustain double the exist. population. We need to educate the masses re: food growth, disease, water, sanitation, etc.. which much of the populace is ignorant of.
