You should third base extended with a throw coming from right field area and first base extended with a throw coming from left field area. If he would have been thied base extended he would have clearly seen the sliding player never reach home because of the catcher's excellent blocking of the plate, with possession of the ball.

By rule you have to have possession of the ball to block the plate. He didn't have the ball until the runner was already sliding. I bet you that's why the ump was talking to the catcher, explaining why.
