The Covenant of Mayors is a mainstream European movement involving local and regional authorities, voluntarily committing to increasing energy efficiency and use of renewable energy sources on their territories. By their commitment, Covenant signatories aim to meet and exceed the European Union 20% CO2 reduction objective by 2020. Bristol signed the Covenant in 2009 and has set more ambitious reduction targets than the EU and UK targets (40% reduction in CO2 by 2020 from 2005 baseline). Bristol City Council was identified as a leading city by the Covenant of Mayors and were asked to produce a video to share their expertise with other cities across Europe.
