What the people didn't know was that the entire Republican leadership would make a vow to oppose everything he did, would use their corporate money to smear him and make it impossible to do his job effectively. Most Americans are fair people and like to think the best of others, but unfortunately the GOP leaders were more interested in ideology than in America.
