Sergej Rachmaninoff's magnificent 2nd Piano Concert in g minor op.18 was composed between the autumn of 1900 and April 1901.The complete work was premiered, with the composer as soloist, on 27 October 1901,
This piece is one of Rachmaninoff's most enduringly popular pieces and established his fame as one of the greatest russian composers.
Listen to this live recording in Hamburg by Cologne Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Volker Hartung. Soloist is polish pianist Hubert Salvarovski, who was 23 years old at the time of the recordinmg in Spring 2002.
