This is something I run into all the time. Faith (i.e. belief without evidence) is itself, intrinsically arrogant. The idea that you can believe something, or in many cases, claim to be certain about it, without any evidence to back you up, is quite frankly ridiculous in the eyes of science. The beauty of science is that it has human fallibility hardwired into its very structure. Science understands that we'll never know everything, and that much of our current knowledge is tentative, pending more data and analysis.

The pure irony of the misconception that science is arrogant while faith is humble would make me burst out laughing, if not for the pathetic fact that it's so widely believed.

  • If someone calls you narrow minded in an argument, a good counter is to state what evidence would change your mind, and then ask your opponent to do the same. If they refuse, that might show which side is really narrow minded. Nice vid.

  • @GuineaPigDan That's very true, I remember collaborating with someone on deviantART to make a comic of that a while back.
